Graduate Research Assistant

Faria Amin is a graduate research assistant at the Charlotte Urban Institute, supporting the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Quality of Life Explorer project and contributing to housing and transportation research projects such as the Housing Trust Fund. 



A geographer and urban planner, Amin is passionate about examining regional and urban phenomena through spatial econometrics, geographic information science, known as GIS, and data-driven analysis. Her research interests include transportation accessibility, housing affordability, housing market dynamics, and the impacts of zoning and land-use policies.

Amin holds a master’s degree in Geography and Urban Planning from the University of Toledo in Ohio. Before joining UNC Charlotte to pursue her doctorate, she worked as a full-time GIS Analyst at the Maumee Valley Planning Organization, where she contributed to transportation planning and geospatial analysis projects.

Amin enjoys discovering new food and coffee spots, as well as cozy, unhurried weekends at home watching movies. She loves reading Substack essays on art, literature, anthropology and archaeology.
