On February 27, 2023, the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute and Town of Matthews shared findings from the 2022 Matthews Housing Needs Assessment. The study report includes findings about demographics, housing, land use, and key informant perspectives related to Matthews’ housing. The report also offers recommendations for advancing affordable housing as the population in Matthews continues to grow and available land decreases. The report provides initial information to guide Matthews as leaders make decisions about development in the Town.
Researchers from the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute conducted this study between May and December 2022 with funding provided by the Town of Matthews. The researchers note that the housing market continues to evolve. As such, in future months and years, findings and recommendations should be considered in the context of various changes in the market and politics that may influence housing-related decisions.
